This course is designed for English Language Learners who are developing the skills needed to succeed in Grade 9 English Language Arts. The curriculum mirrors the content and learning outcomes of a standard Grade 9 ELA course while providing targeted language support.
Students will develop their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through the study of a variety of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and media. They will practice analyzing themes, identifying literary devices, and interpreting meaning, while building academic vocabulary and comprehension strategies.
Writing instruction focuses on developing clear and structured responses, including narratives, essays, and reports. Students will also engage in research, discussions, and presentations to strengthen communication and critical thinking skills.
This course provides a supportive environment that balances language development with ELA content, preparing students to transition successfully into mainstream Grade 9 classes.
