Course Description:
Jazz Band 25
Jazz Band brings the party! If you play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, piano, bass, drums or percussion - this may be the band for you! (Other instruments may be admissible with permission from the teacher, i.e. flute/clarinet/euphonium/tuba.) Students must have at least 3 years of musical experience, including the ability to read sheet music, to sign up for this course.
Senior Jazz is offered Tuesday/Thursdays 7:40 - 8:50 am and Intermediate Jazz is being offered Tuesday/Thursdays @3:50 - 5:00 PM. Students do get the choice of which band they would prefer - Senior or Intermediate. Intermediate Band is designed with Grade 9 and 10s in mind as well as other developing musicians! We cover a variety of genres including swing, funk, bebop, pop, rock, and more! More time is spent learning to groove and being introduced to all things jazz (also ideal for musicians on second instruments). Senior Jazz covers a lot more material with a higher practice/performance expectation. Music in this ensemble will be challenging with the expectation that students are committing to at-home practice. Although each course is unique and designed with specific intentions for each, students are welcome to select the course which suits their learning needs and availability best, regardless of their grade. There is flexibility and accomodations available for students who wish to play sports before/after-school, so students do not need to choose between two passions. Please reach out to amanda.fitch@rdpsd.ab.ca if you have questions, would like more detailed information or if you are unsure which ensemble would suit you best.
