Getting Yourself "Unstuck"

If you’re finding yourself unmotivated while social distancing, you’re not alone. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut when our routine is disrupted.

What I try to remember when I feel discouraged about my goals is this: Progress is not a date on the calendar. Nothing magical happens on January 1 that can’t be duplicated on any of the other 364 days. Sure, it can feel exciting to have a clean slate and a fresh start. But the start of a new year (or a Monday) doesn’t actually give you the special ability to accomplish anything you set your mind to. You can do that any day.

Start with small changes. Reset, rewrite, or remove.

Check out this simple but effective 5-minute strategy to help overcome a lack of motivation. The five minute rule involves trying an activity for just five minutes. After 5 minutes, you’re free to continue doing the activity or stop doing it.

This can act as a mood booster and increase confidence and motivation. So if the thought of going for a walk, logging onto Google Classroom, or engaging in a self-care activity seems daunting to you, try doing it for just 5 minutes.
